Washington State Referendum No 71
We're winning. OMG, we're winning. It looks like we're going to win, 51% to 49%.

And registered same-sex domestic partners, which is as close as we come to gay marriage in Washington State, will have all the rights and responsibilities of married couples .

OMG, we have worked so long and so hard. I haven't felt this strongly about anything political since Barack was elected.

It's so damn close. King County (Seattle) is approving it strongly, but of course the rural parts of the state, and even Spokane, are against.

It might be a little too early to celebrate. But I think we won.

The results
Well we all know how Main's Prop 1 went. 87% of it counted and it went to the YES. I call voter fraud and a recount. Nate said it would be NO by 70%. Something is wrong here.

Oh btw, Main passed the medical marijuna distributing bill. So they get their dope but no gay marriages.

Houston is most likely going to have a gay Mayor.

New York City elected two Asians to office, one citywide as comptroller and the other in Manhattan as councilwoman.

Boomberg wasted a lot of money to get his squeaked by win. Which is pissing off the Democrats because the Democratic Party didn't even campaign hard for their guy.

Washington is about to extend domestic partner benefits to same sex parters. In essence they are getting the separate but equal clause of 'gay marriage' not in name. Nate Silver is suggesting that maybe the GBLT should focus on this a compromise to get the benefits to same sex parterns. But we all know that once it gets passed (Nationwide) it will eventually get challenged in the Supreme Court because separate but equal is unconstitutional in all regards.

It seems that Austin passed it so that it is expanding COBRA+ to domestic partners. Since you know in 2006 Texas made the constitutional amendment where Gay Marriage and Civil Unions are not ALLOWED or RECOGNIZED.

And ALL 11 propositions passed in Texas.

Wrisomifu...day 3
I had planned on talking about how Jeff, and now it seems my daughter, has baby-itis. I'm just not feeling it for tonight, though. So I think I'm just going to ramble for a bit.

I now know what the guy from Alien felt like. None of my four ever moved this much, nor this forceful. This little dude has literally almost knocked the computer off my lap. I didn't think it was possible until I saw the damned thing lurch. LOL He makes my clothes jump, he makes my boobs jiggle. I'm glad it doesn't hurt like it looks like it should. He's kicked my bladder with surprising accuracy, as well as whatever part of the birth canal he's near. Those hurt. I imagine that when I'm getting kicked in the birth canal area, that's as close to knowing what a guy feels when he's kicked in the nuts as I am going to ever get. It hurts as much as I imagined it would. LOL

Brianna and I rearranged the living room today. We had to, I got sick of having to doge Wii controllers. So, we moved the kids desk from one wall of the corner it's in to the other, and moved my section of the couch down a foot or so, then moved the love seat next to it. Lots more room in here now. The coffee table might actually get to stay with my blessing now. (I hate that table, seriously hate it)

Took an accidental break from Snarry today. I was doing a Yahoo search for a Girl!Harry fic list, and stumbled across a hilarious HP/Marvel crossover. I have always been a fan of stories that took the way the Wizarding world was written, and show just how idiotic some of the things are. This story does it in spades, and in a very intelligent, yet funny manor. Unfortunately, I believe this fic has been abandoned. But this is one I'll enjoy just getting to what is here.

Yet another day with no writing done. I am very glad for the 500 word min in the Mini Fest. I highly doubt I'll be much over that. I may just give up writing all together after this is done. It's supposed to be fun, and for whatever reason it's not at the moment. I do really hope that changes. I had lots of fun and enjoyment writing MM. Maybe I'm just trying to hard?

Jeff's Medical Board Package was sent off to who ever makes the decisions today. Not as much fanfare over that as I thought there would be. We've only been waiting for, oh something like 2.5 to 3 years for this. Seriously, after a person is on a "Profile" (a Profile is what the Air Force calls what they put a person on when he cannot participate in PT, and/or has job restrictions.) for over a year. Jeff has been on a profile for at least three years, and I'm thinking it's closer to four. I'm not sure whether or not they include the time before the back surgery or not. *shrugs* Hopefully we will have a decision in a few months. Whether or not he appeals that decision, is another matter.

I also found out that the person I'm being a Surrogate for is planing on staying in the same suite as she is putting me in while I am in LA. While I understand the logic to this thinking, I am DREADING that time. After all that shit she put us through last month...it was already to the point where I fill up with dread when I get an email from her. I just want this over and done with, so that I can cut all ties with her. I have found that she is a user. She creates friendships with people expecting that to change how business works with them. She did it to her embryologist as well as her lawyer and his wife, and now she's done it to me. LOL Road to hell, I now know that personally. Still, want to do it again, though. Possibly, depends on the carrier abuse I get from the alien. LOL

I cannot believe I am saying this...But it hit me the other day how much I really want to move back home. I could have sworn I hated it there. I know I hate being that close to my mother. But, aside from that, I have the urge to be back there. Creeped me out when I realized, but it's still true. LOL

Going to try and continue adding recipes for as long as I can during this. Tonight's feature, what Jeff and Brianna lovingly call: Heartburn in a Bowl.

1 chuck roast (cut into inch cubes) or 1 package of boneless skinless Chicken thighs (cut into bite sized pieces)
2 med onions (cut into chunks)
2 green peppers (cut into chunks)
2 reg cans or 1 large can of diced tomatoes
2 reg cans or 1 large can or tomato sauce
1 can of Italian flavor tomato paste
1 1/2 cups of Italian dressing
Italian type herbs of your liking

Toss everything into a pan, (I use my lasagna pan), and stir until mixed completely. Put into a pre-heated 375 oven for 45 min to an hour. Serve over mashed potatoes.

FYI-notifications
Notifications of comments seem to be coming intermittently to me. I missed several from this afternoon but received others. Might want to check your 'recent comments' just to see.

Anyone else notice a problem?

While I'm here . . . I added about 700 words to one of my fics plus I wrote a double drabble today, almost making up for writing nothing yesterday. Not quite making my 500 word a day goal but still making progress.

One of my favorite Severitis series....
Was just reading Snape's Vocation which is part of a Severitis (Severus is Harry's dad) story line.

Was rereading this for...I don't quite know...possibly the 10th time, as it's one of my favorite stories. I was struck once again at the deftness with which the author (Gillianm) redeems Snape. In far too many stories, I barely get a page into it and Snape becomes Huggy!Snape, Lustful!Snape, Wimpy!Snape, or some other totally OOC version. In her series, however, his development as both parent and (more importantly) person is both gradual and believable.

"...he could afford to be generous." She writes. Yes! because Harry's parents are DEAD. They aren't competition. Harry already loves Severus by this point. Gillianm has grasped an essential part of Snape's nature here--he is, in fact, both selfish and noble.

"Yes," Snape said firmly. And after all, he could afford to be generous. Some parts of the past couldn't hurt, and they were gone and no threat to him now.

Harry was his.

Same here:

"And every bit of you was made with love," he finished firmly, and maybe that hadn't always been true but it was now, and now was where they were living.

"Will I always be Harry Potter then?" Harry wondered.

"I think it's fair.... So you never forget that they loved you even before I did. And after all, what do names matter?"

"They don't matter at all," Harry declared. "But make sure everyone knows you're my dad, okay?"

Her Snape has no difficulty lying to Harry...not because Snape is a foul Slytherin and lying comes easy. No, it's far from that simple. He lies to Harry because sharing the truth would hurt the boy he's come to see as his own...and thus would hurt Snape himself. Again, she's grasped a fundamental facet of Snape's character and used it to illustrate how he would react in a certain situation. And she's hit the nail on the head. Snape values...nay...obsesses over what is his. He would never willingly hurt Harry once Harry belongs to him. Thus Snape is able to grow as a character not because he has suddenly become less selfish (OOC!) but because his very selfishness has expanded to include a child he did not even want.

Beautifully done.

Fwump!
I have written 1585 words today on my [info]happy_trekmas fic, and basically wrote straight to the end of the "outline" I managed to come up with yesterday.

Which means I'm fresh out of ideas. Crap.

However, I do know how the porn is going to go (fics must be R/NC-17, so I'm not giving away too much by saying there's gonna be porn, lol), so if worse comes to worse I'll write that and just wait for further inspiration on the rest.

Inspiration, however, usually comes in the form of having my hands in water (can't write if they're in water), so I'm going to go clean my kitchen and hope for the best.

Yay. Housework. Yaaaaaaaay.

discussion on fanfic and copyright

This doesn't sound right to me. Despite the OP's having "talked to a copyright lawyer" and "looked it up" (re: US copyright law) I think there may be some misunderstanding and also some mixing up of copyright and trademark. My understanding is that when I write a story featuring Harry Potter at Hogwarts or anything else recognizable from the series, yes, I am making use of someone else's intellectual property without permission, i.e., I am infringing on JKR's rights (setting aside for the moment arguments that fanfiction should be considered either 1. parody or 2. transformative enough to be protected). But the specific sequence of words I choose to set down my plots and descriptions, isn't that copyright mine as soon as I manifest it, like any other work? For example:

"I was just curious," she continued in the same low voice, and let one corner of her mouth quirk in what she hoped was a cutely mysterious fashion. (She was only eighteen, after all, and just starting to learn the fine art of seducing eighteen-year-old boys, something which was probably easier than she suspected at the time.) "I wanted to... I wanted to see you."

That's an excerpt from one of my Lily/Severus fics. Is this passage magically the property of JKR because I happened to use characters recognizable as her creation? (notice that they are not named here, although they are elsewhere) She (or her agent) can tell me to cease & desist and/or claim damages, but that doesn't transfer the production/distribution rights to her, does it? It just means that her right to dictate how her intellectual property is used trumps my right to produce/distribute my own (infringing) work?

The Assessment Center, or The Contortions You Have to Go Through When You Want Money from the State
Hehee, I can’t believe I forgot to post this! Oh, man. Seems my memory isn’t all that good after all, eh? To start from the beginning:

I passed my M.A. finals in July but haven’t been able to find a job. Crisis, and all that. So, being unable to pay such trifling things like rent or health insurance from no income, I applied to The Tax Payer to give me some money. They were very gracious and did so, but before they did, I had to attend the “Assessment Center” (say, is that a genuine English word, or another fabulous German creation like “Oldtimer”? [you guys would say vintage car]). There, psychologists observed and studied me to help me find my strengths and weaknesses, and to discover how they could help me find a job.

Certainly very nice, only, you know, I’m quite aware of my strengths and weaknesses and I know how to write a CV in MS Word. But I had to go, and so I went. And now here it is:

The Assessment Center: An Adventure in Five Days )

Oh, well. It was worth the experience. Even if only to realise that there are still people who have no idea how to use a computer. And that there are also people who would never willingly touch a book. It was surreal.

Today you get to guess which [info]ownficfest is mine!
The official guessing poll is HERE and it includes links to all the fics that were submitted as well as a handy list of all the participants' names.
Anyone who correctly guesses which fic was mine gets a drabble or ficlet, pairing of their choice, prompt of their choice, written by me. Those excluded: my betas and those in my writing group who helped me with this.
You're welcome to guess until just before the reveals, which will be on Sunday, November 8th.
