Title: Hogwarts Express, by Closet Skeleton
Rating: R
Pairing: Harry/Draco
Summary: Now boarding the Hogwarts Interdimensional Express. Please mind the gap.

I'll admit, I'm a total sucker for any story that plays with spacetime, especially if it involves multiple realities and a mystery to solve. This story contains some spelling and grammatical errors, and some of the plot twists are predictable, but it's still a highly entertaining read.

I just couldn't wait until Wednesday's issue of [info]severus_recs to start reccomending this story. I just couldn't.

I ached while reading this. Once I was finished, I immediately went back and began to re-read it. I've no doubt I will repeat this process many times over the next few days. Quite honestly, it is one of the most beautiful pieces of fiction I have ever read, and the language I have at my disposal will be woefully inadequate to describe it.

This is an epic story set in the modern wizarding world and 1916 Russia. It breaks through the boundaries of slash fiction and fan fiction; this is not a story about Severus and Draco, it is a story about war and love and what it means to be human. Almost every historical detail is accurate, bespeaking what had to be a great deal of painstaking research and planning. Each of the characters is so fully developed, so real, that I could feel my own mood shifting in time with theirs; when they laughed, I smiled, and when they thought about the people they'd lost, my entire body ached for them. The language itself is everything you'd expect from Femme: poetic, brilliant, witty, and hauntingly beautiful- which is exactly how I would describe the story itself.

Set aside a few hour's time for this story. I guarantee that you will not be able to stop reading until you're finished.

Summary: Four years after Dumbledore's death, Draco Malfoy shows up on the doorstep of number twelve, Grimmauld Place looking for Harry Potter. Torn between his selfish cowardice and family's pride, Draco finds himself alone on a battlefield and has nowhere else to turn; and Harry has to learn that sometimes you don't put up walls to keep other people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down.

This is the sort of story that makes me ashamed to call myself a writer- not because it's rubbish, but because it's so god damned good that it hurts my ego.

I was initially drawn to it because of its name, and once I started reading, I couldn't stop. The voices of the characters are perfect down to the last syllable. The premise is one of the most original wartime plots I've read in a long time (and isn't that a testament to how good it is, that I'm reading a wartime story). Even the author's original character fits in seamlessly with the rest of the wizarding universe like he was a creation of Rowling herself.

There is plenty of emotion, plenty of humor (the interactions between characters are bloody priceless), and a plot that will leave you blinking at your monitor and thinking, 'Why the hell couldn't I have come up with that?'

Oh, and 10 points to the author's house of choice for writing such a devilishly sexy Voldemort. Dark Lords don't get much hotter than this, people.

This fic has been around for quite some time, but after re-reading it, I felt it necessary to mention it in a post of its very own. I am typically not a fan of Depressed!Harry fics, so it's saying quite a bit that I'm going out of my way to reccomend this story. In short, every word of it is almost painfully exquisite, and it is the sort of thing that I strive for in my own writing.

Favorite bit:

"Have I mentioned today how much I hate you?"

"Several times."

"Good. Wouldn't want you to forget."

"There is very little chance of that happening. May I read my mail now?"

"You know what? I give up." Harry threw up his hands and then flopped to the ground. He lay there spread-eagled and closed his eyes. "This is ridiculous and confusing and I'm done. Have your way with me."

"Don't be dramatic."

Harry opened his eyes and squinted up at the dark pillar that was Snape. "I cannot believe you are telling me not to be dramatic."

Snape scanned the letter and said absently, "Life is full of surprises, Potter."
